back on track

hey y'all. still here.

so i essentially enjoyed (?) a two-week hiatus from a formal workout schedule.

last last week i was in montréal for chi, and did a lot of eating of good food. i tried to combat the conference couchiness by taking the stairs whenever i could (there were lots of opportunity if you stepped away from the looming escalators), walking to and fro from the convention center to the hotel (thru the neato underground walkway), and citytrekking. however, i was quite happy munching on regional specialities--bread, butter, cheese, wine, mmmm.

but i resisted the fated poutine! haha. how can anyone eat that (fries + cheese curds smothered in gravy) without an instantaneous cardiac arrest? i also avoided most of the mass-manufactured snacks (cookies, pastries, cakes) doled out during the conference; i tell you, it's like a cruise ship with all the edibles that are thrown at you. no wonder wined-and-dined folks are apt to be paunchy. and i didnt even attend the 'hospitality events' which i'm sure were flooded with champagne and cupcakes. naturally.

and then last week i was 'adjusting' to being back home, which was my excuse for not working out. :D

this weekend i received my dvd set of the bar method workout from amazon ('fat free' and 'designer sculpting') and did the fat free workout last night. amazingly, i could do it in my bedroom, in a tight corner bordered by the wall, my bed, and the bookshelf. the most room you need is basically enough for you to lie down. it was very simple moves, and not too intense, but my legs were shaking like crazy. very isometric-feeling, and i think i will improve once the form becomes more natural. (there's a 'bar method tuck' that you hold for a lot of the moves, defined as standing upright, dropping your tailbone, pushing your front hips up, and holding in your abs, simultaneously tightening your glutes, abs, and upper thighs). the host woman, burr, looks absolutely fantastic. for a lady in her late 50s, she looks tons better than a lot of active 20-somethings.

perhaps i will go swimming this afternoon? i am looooooooovin' the spring weathah!
